Ongoing governance to monitor performance, audit vendor compliance, update policies as regulations evolve, and respond to incidents.

Very few firms have all these capabilities in-house. Even fewer have the bandwidth to manage it alongside client work.

This is where the question becomes critical: are you equipped to deploy AI internally, or do you need an experienced partner?

I understand the appeal of DIY AI adoption. You save money on consulting fees. You maintain control. You move at your own pace.

But consider what you're taking on:

  • Regulatory risk: A single compliance misstep could result in disciplinary action, fines, or loss of licensure

Invest in proper implementation. Whether internal or external, dedicate real resources to security configuration, staff training, quality assurance, and ongoing monitoring. Cutting corners here is where disasters happen.

Plan for the long term. AI isn't a "set it and forget it" technology. You need ongoing vendor management, policy updates as regulations evolve, continuous staff training, and regular risk assessments.

December: Build your foundation. Develop policies and procedures. Train your team. Establish quality assurance protocols. Launch pilot programs with appropriate safeguards.

January 2026: Execute strategically. Roll out vetted AI tools with proper governance. Monitor closely. Adjust based on real-world results. Scale what works.

The firms that follow this roadmap will enter 2026 with competitive advantages that are also compliance-defensible. The firms that skip steps will be playing Russian roulette with their professional licenses and client relationships.
